ACADEMICS

Elevating critical thinkers, creative doers, and morally ambitious citizens who will shape the future.

THE MODEL

Mastery Based

Mastery is not a grade. It is not a passing score. It is the moment a student can take what they have learned and own it cleanly enough to do it, explain it, and apply it without help.

Every X• Prep student moves at the pace of their own mastery. At times students move faster than the grade level. Sometimes it takes more time. Both are correct, because both are honest. No Gaps. No Holes. Just Real Learning.

The result is an individualized path for every student, built on the foundation that the work was actually owned before the next concept was attempted.

360˚ Model

01

LEARN

Build the foundation. Own the process. Rigorous, NCAA-aligned curriculum as the baseline, never the ceiling.

02

DEMONSTRATE

Knowledge without application is incomplete. Students apply the concepts they are learning to real projects.

03

TEACH

If you cannot teach it, you do not own it. Mastery is complete only when a student can teach a peer clearly and confidently.

Learn By Doing

Passive learning is the enemy of mastery. Memorizing answers to a test without ever putting those concepts to use or seeing how they actually matter doesn't complete the process.

At X• Prep, every concept is moved into the hands and the work as fast as the concept allows. Students learn by building, testing, presenting, and teaching. They demonstrate what they have learned by doing it in front of someone. And once they can do it, they teach the student next to them until that student can do it too.

This is not a pedagogy trend. It is the only way mastery actually happens.

Real World Application

We do not stay in the hypothetical for long. Every idea, every concept, every academic skill is moved to a real-world application as quickly as the students are ready.

Math becomes a budget for a real Innovator Labs venture. Writing becomes a pitch to a real audience. Biology becomes a project documented for a real client. Public speaking becomes a defense of an idea in a debate.

The classroom is where it starts. It is never where it ends.

Portfolio Development

X• Prep students do not leave with only a transcript and a diploma. They leave with a portfolio of real work that proves to the world what they are capable of building.

Capstone projects. Client deliverables from Innovator Labs. Startup ventures from the Incubator. Documented teach-backs. Real references from real adults who have seen the student execute under real conditions.

By graduation, an X• Prep student does not have to convince a college, a coach, or an employer that they are ready. They can show them.

The Downtown Campus

X• Prep is not a traditional school campus. It is a network of real spaces in downtown Abilene. The Elks Art Preservation Museum is our home base. Coffee shops, libraries, bookstores, museums, galleries, and community venues become the rest of the classroom.

Students are not hidden behind sterile walls. They are out and about as active citizens of the city, learning in the world they will one day help lead.

A school that lives in the community raises students who know how to function in one.

Academic Divisions

K–12.  One Standard.  Three Stages.

K – 5

LOWER SCHOOL

FOUNDATIONS OF CHARACTER AND COMPETENCE.

Lower School is where the X• Prep standard is set. Strong reading and math foundations through mastery-based instruction. Character, responsibility, and personal accountability built in from the first week. Early exposure to presentation, collaboration, and project-based work, because confidence in front of a room is a skill that has to start young.

  • Strong reading and math foundations through mastery-based instruction
  • Character formation, responsibility, and personal accountability built in from day one
  • Early exposure to presentation, collaboration, and project-based work
  • Structured practice and guided application, not passive worksheets

6 – 8

MIDDLE SCHOOL

FROM GUIDED LEARNING TO GROWING OWNERSHIP.

Middle School is the transition years. Academic rigor rises. Expectations rise. Hand-holding ends. Students take on real projects with real deliverables and start owning their own goals through structured success coaching. Early leadership and peer mentorship opportunities open up. This is where students stop being taught and start learning.

  • Advanced core academics with rising rigor and rising expectations
  • Demonstrated skill application through structured projects and real deliverables
  • Student Success coaching and personal goal-setting with measurable results
  • Early leadership and peer mentorship opportunities
  • Resilience and self-awareness built into the academic experience

UPPER SCHOOL

PREPARATION FOR THE WORLD.

Upper School is the highest-stakes academic environment X• Prep operates. Cognia-accredited transcripts. NCAA-aligned coursework from day one. ACT and SAT preparation woven into the academic model, not bolted on. Dual Credit for accelerated pathways. Real-world portfolio development alongside the traditional academic record. By graduation, an X• Prep upper school student walks into college admissions, college athletics recruiting, and the job market with proof of mastery, not just a transcript.

The End of the Status Quo

Time for a Better Way.

The traditional school model is a conveyor belt. It moves every student through the same steps at the same pace toward the same one-size-fits-all student mold. Your student deserves something better.

Traditional School

X• Prep

A conveyor belt designed to produce a one-size-fits-all student mold on a fixed timeline.

An individualized path where every student advances by mastery, not by date.

Concepts are tested and forgotten. Grades are negotiated. The curve protects the student who never owned the material.

Concepts are owned. Demonstrated. Taught back. Mastery is the only currency. There is no curve.

Theory stays in the textbook. The classroom never connects to the real world the student is graduating into.

Every concept moves to real-world application. Real clients. Real defenses. Real deadlines.

A transcript and a diploma. That is the entire output.

A transcript, a diploma, and a portfolio of real work that proves what the student can actually do.

Get Your Student Off of the Conveyor Belt.

Let Them Find Their Calling
and Pursue Their Passion.
